Hungarian Slovak Gypsies in America
by Steve PIskor
I found out that these Hungarian Slovak Roma do not know their heritage. They no nothing about where their ancestors came from or who they are, and how they are related to each other. They fantasize and romanticize their heritage, and are unwilling to know or find the truth. The younger generation don't want anything to do with it, and the older generation don't care.
I have been researching the Hungarian Slovak Gypsies for over 35 years. I have been taking pictures and movies of them from 12 years old. By the early 1970s I warned the Hungarian Slovak Gypsies that they were losing their heritage. There were less people learning the music and speaking the language. Today it is almost gone and will come to an end soon. The younger ones have no interest and the older ones don't care. This book and website is devoted to their memory of how a once thriving community of Roma lost their heritage, and are no longer Gypsy.
